Why
I Founded Focal Pointe Eyecare
I founded Focal Pointe Eyecare because I believe eye care should be both medical and personal; precise in its diagnostics and attentive in its delivery. Too often patients leave appointments feeling rushed, with unanswered questions or eyewear that doesn’t reflect who they are, and I wanted to create a different kind of experience.
I created a clinic where every patient feels genuinely cared for; a place where I can take the time to listen, where advanced technology supports tailored care. Eyewear is curated with intention, helping patients not only see well, but also feel confident in frames that reflect their style, lifestyle, and sense of quality.
Every detail of the clinic, from the technology we invest in to the eyewear we select, reflects this commitment to an elevated, personalized eye care experience.

Meet Our Doctor
Dr. Rusha Barua, FAAO
Dr. Rusha Barua is the founder and optometrist at Focal Pointe Eyecare, a modern clinic serving patients in Heritage Pointe, South Calgary, and surrounding communities. She is passionate about providing personalized, relationship‑focused eye care and helping patients protect their long‑term vision and eye health.
Dr. Barua earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. She completed clinical training at the Woolfson Eye Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, and The Eye Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), an advanced credential held by only a small percentage of optometrists in Canada. The fellowship reflects her commitment to evidence-based eye care, clinical excellence, and lifelong learning.
Dr. Barua is actively involved in supporting the profession and mentoring future optometrists. She has served as a clinical supervisor for optometry students from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science, helping guide them during their clinical rotations and sharing real-world patient care experience. She also serves as a Continuing Education Coordinator for the Calgary Society of Optometrists, where she helps organize educational programs that keep local optometrists current with the latest advancements in eye care.

At Focal Pointe Eyecare, Dr. Barua provides comprehensive eye exams, ocular disease management, dry eye assessment and treatment, and myopia management for children. As someone with high myopia and dry eye herself, Dr. Barua brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to her care which gives her a unique understanding of how vision and comfort impact daily life. She is passionate about helping patients find solutions that improve both vision and comfort.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Barua enjoys baking, trying new restaurants, travelling, and spending time in her backyard where her husband (Jeremy) grows fresh fruits and vegetables in the summer.
