Personalized Dry Eye & Ocular Surface Care
Restoring comfort. Enhancing clarity. Elevating eye health.
At Focal Pointe Eyecare, we take a comprehensive approach to dry eye by identifying the underlying causes of discomfort, irritation, and fluctuating vision to deliver lasting relief through personalized care.
Dry eye is common across all ages and often influenced by Alberta’s dry climate and wind exposure. Early evaluation helps protect long-term comfort and visual clarity.
You may benefit from a dry eye assessment if you experience:
- Dryness or irritation
- Burning or stinging sensation
- Fluctuating or blurry vision
- Excessive tearing
- Eye fatigue, especially with screen use
Your Dry Eye Evaluation
Each assessment is detailed and designed to understand the full picture of your ocular surface health.
We evaluate:
- Tear quality and stability
- Tear production
- Eyelid function and blink quality
- Meibomian (oil) gland health and expression
- Overall ocular surface condition
Using advanced diagnostic technology, we create a customized treatment plan focused on both immediate relief and long-term improvement.
Nearly 25% of individuals with dry eye may not experience noticeable symptoms, making early evaluation an important part of long-term eye health. Untreated dry eye can progress over time and impact both comfort and vision.

Advanced Dry Eye Therapy with InMode Envision™
At Focal Pointe Eyecare, we offer InMode Envision™ Lumecca IPL and Forma-I Radiofrequency (RF) as part of our comprehensive approach to dry eye and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).
These in-office therapies are designed to address factors that can contribute to evaporative dry eye and unhealthy meibomian glands. Depending on your ocular surface findings, they may be used individually or together as part of a customized treatment plan.
Lumecca IPL
Lumecca uses intense pulsed light (IPL) around the eye area to target factors associated with inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction.
IPL may help:
- Reduce inflammation around the eyelids
- Support healthier meibomian gland function
- Improve the quality and stability of the tear film
- Address visible blood vessels associated with ocular surface inflammation
Forma-I Radiofrequency (RF)
Forma-I uses radiofrequency energy to gently heat the eyelid tissues. Controlled heating can help soften thickened meibum and support meibomian gland expression.
Forma-I may help:
- Warm and soften meibum within the glands
- Support meibomian gland function
- Improve meibum flow
- Enhance the effectiveness of meibomian gland expression
Why Combine IPL and RF?
Dry eye is often multifactorial, and MGD can involve both inflammation and altered meibomian gland function. Combining IPL and RF allows us to address different contributing factors as part of one comprehensive treatment approach.
Your treatment plan is determined after a detailed dry eye evaluation. Not every patient requires in-office treatment, and the therapies recommended will depend on your individual ocular surface findings, symptoms and goals.
Long-Term Ocular Surface Health
Dry eye disease and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) are often ongoing conditions that benefit from consistent care and maintenance.
Advanced therapies such as InMode Forma-I RF and Lumecca IPL are designed to target the underlying causes of dry eye and support healthier gland function over
time.
Much like skincare or dental care, periodic maintenance treatments can help:
- Maintain results
- Reduce flare-ups
- Support long-term ocular comfort

FAQ
What is a dry eye evaluation?
A dry eye evaluation is a detailed assessment of the tear film, eyelids, meibomian glands and ocular surface. At Focal Pointe Eyecare, we look beyond your symptoms to identify factors contributing to your dry eye and develop a personalized treatment plan.
What causes dry eye?
Dry eye can have several contributing factors, including reduced tear production, increased tear evaporation, meibomian gland dysfunction, eyelid inflammation, medications, contact lens wear, environmental conditions and prolonged screen use. Many patients have more than one contributing factor.
What is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)?
The meibomian glands are small oil-producing glands located within the eyelids. They release oils that help slow evaporation of the tear film. When these glands become blocked or aren’t functioning properly, tears can evaporate too quickly, contributing to evaporative dry eye.
What is InMode Envision™?
InMode Envision™ is a platform that includes Lumecca IPL and Forma-I RF, two technologies that may be used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for dry eye and MGD. We can determine whether these treatments are appropriate based on your ocular surface evaluation.
How many IPL or RF treatments will I need?
Treatment plans vary depending on the severity and underlying causes of your dry eye. A series of treatments is commonly recommended initially, followed by reassessment and maintenance as appropriate.
What is ZEST® Microblepharoexfoliation?
ZEST® is an in-office eyelid treatment that gently exfoliates and cleanses the eyelid margins and eyelashes to remove accumulated debris, oils and biofilm. It can be used as part of a comprehensive approach to eyelid hygiene, blepharitis and dry eye management.
Is ZEST® the same as cleaning my eyelids at home?
Not quite. Think of ZEST® Microblepharoexfoliation like a professional dental hygiene cleaning, while your regular eyelid hygiene routine is like brushing and flossing at home.
Brushing your teeth every day is essential for maintaining good oral health, but you still benefit from professional cleanings to remove buildup that can be difficult to eliminate at home. Similarly, regular eyelid hygiene at home helps maintain healthy eyelids, while ZEST® provides a more thorough, in-office exfoliation and cleansing of the eyelid margins and lash line.
ZEST® can be particularly helpful when there is significant buildup, debris or inflammation around the eyelids that may be difficult to manage with home care alone. The best approach is often both: professional treatment when needed, combined with consistent at-home eyelid hygiene to help maintain the results.
Can ZEST® be combined with other dry eye treatments?
Yes. Depending on your individual needs, ZEST® may be incorporated into a broader dry eye treatment plan alongside therapies such as IPL, RF, warm compresses, lid hygiene and lubricating eye drops.
Will dry eye treatment cure my dry eye?
Dry eye is often a chronic condition, so treatment is generally focused on improving symptoms, addressing underlying contributors and maintaining a healthier ocular surface over time. Your treatment plan may evolve as your eyes respond.
Can dry eye cause blurry or fluctuating vision?
Yes. An unstable tear film can cause vision to fluctuate, particularly during activities such as reading or computer use. If your vision repeatedly becomes blurry and then clears after blinking, the tear film may be contributing.
Can I still wear contact lenses if I have dry eye?
Many people with dry eye can continue wearing contact lenses, although comfort may depend on the severity and underlying cause of the condition. We can assess your ocular surface and help determine whether changes to your lenses, wearing schedule or dry eye treatment may improve comfort.
When should I have a dry eye assessment?
Consider an assessment if you regularly experience dryness, burning, irritation, excessive tearing, fluctuating vision, eye fatigue or contact lens discomfort. Persistent symptoms are worth evaluating rather than simply managing with over-the-counter eye drops.
